With so many amazing organizations already making a positive impact towards global relief efforts, the foundation's best way to make a difference is to annually select and donate to existing efforts.
The Georg & Agathe Foundation, our parent nonprofit, has chosen CARE International as the 2018 Peace Initiatives Award recipient.
The foundation has a proposed project for a Whitehead Torpedo Factory & Naval Museum and Whitehead von Trapp Peace Conference Center in Rijeka, Croatia. The Center would honor Robert Whitehead's original intention behind his invention of peace: "Paradoxical as it may seem, Mr Whitehead ... considered [the torpedo] as a means for ensuring peace rather than bringing war... His idea, no doubt, was of the fearful effects of the torpedo, once realised, would be a sufficient deterrent to peoples and nations contemplating war." - 1905 The Engineer Magazine

von Trapp Family and CARE History
Over 70 years ago, the Trapp Family Austrian Relief Inc. sent thousands of tons of aid to post-World War II Austria through assistance with the newly formed Cooperative for American Remittance to Europe (CARE). CARE at the time consisted of 22 American charities working to help with post-World War II relief efforts for millions in need of food and supplies. Today CARE International has become the Cooperative for Assistance & Relief Everywhere, leading one of the largest efforts against poverty and providing relief and assistance on the basis of need, regardless of race, creed, or nationality.

Honoring A Peace Wish...
In recognition of both the Whitehead and von Trapp family's aspirations for peace, despite their military involvement, the foundation supports efforts towards peace. Part of the solution towards peace is promotion of connection to our shared humanity. Annually, the foundation selects and donates to a deserving organization making positive contributions towards peace with their Peace Initiatives Award. Additionally, the foundation has a proposed project for a Whitehead von Trapp Peace Conference Center & Museum Complex in Rijeka, Croatia.
